Extreme Makeover for “Gateway to Midtown”

The Broadway San Antonio New ImageThe San Antonio City Council recently approved a $10 million project that will improve drainage, widen roads, add turn lanes and relocate utility lines underground at the intersection of Broadway Street and Hildebrand Avenue.  The combination of the city's improvement project and Koontz McCombs investment in the beautification of this intersection will drastically transform the function and aesthetics of this landmark location.  In addition to correcting traffic flow and drainage, the enhanced pedestrian sidewalks and lush landscaping in and around The Broadway will profoundly improve this area.  Thousands of locals, tourists, and future Broadway residents pass through this "Gateway to Midtown" on their way to cultural attractions such as the Witte Museum, Brackenridge Park, The Pearl Brewery, San Antonio Botanical Gardens, Fort Sam Houston, and the University of the Incarnate Word.

Koontz McCombs is tremendously grateful that the city continues to realize the importance of revitalizing the Broadway corridor.  Outgoing councilman Louis Rowe helped secure Community Infrastructure and Economic Development (CIED) funds to bury the tangle of utility lines at all four corners of the Broadway and Hildebrand intersection, and Koontz McCombs pledged to contribute financially to this effort.  Earlier this year, the city established the Midtown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ), which allows increased property taxes from projects like The Broadway to be reinvested in much needed infrastructure improvements.  As the Museum Reach of the San Antonio River Improvements Project extends the charm of the River Walk north to Hildebrand Avenue, The Broadway will soon extend the tranquility of this urban oasis to the entire intersection.
